Choice...Reason...Purpose

After how many months I never thought I’d be writing something like what I am about to share in this post. Yes, it’s been quite a long time and I have so many things I want to share; yet I find myself in front of my laptop, at two in the morning, typing these words...

What I’m trying to say is at this moment, I know exactly what I want…

More than ten years ago I found myself in a classroom of first year college students, thinking what they’ll be saying in front of the class to make a great impression on everyone there – or perhaps just wondering whether to go with “My name is – I graduated high school in…” or with “I am – and I graduated from…”
But what was in my head was different…

Why did I take up – of all the courses that seemed fit for me – engineering?

My English classes were always excellent back in high school.

I love writing (obviously).

I dreamed of becoming an author of a great romantic or adventure novel.

…and people in my area think that I was fit to take up law in the future…

But I never ended up taking any of those. I ended up taking what they least expected.

It wasn’t going against the grain since one of my uncles is an engineer, and math and I were okay (except at some point). But I have to admit that back then my reason was lousy… and it was all because I wanted to have a high paying job.

Fast forward to 2012 and here I am: a graduate of computer engineering and have fallen in love with my course and amazed at how God could get me to this point where passion meets profession.

I am blessed, although at some point between “last-year” and “now”, I’ve come to realize that what I really want was more than just getting that high paying job, affording anything I want, getting myself a new car, or finally building that dream house.

While these may be what many see as “dreams”, these, for me, have just become “goals” but not the “dream” itself. Yes, I’d still want to get a high paying job to help my family—but there’s more to it than that. It was the fact that I am able to support my dreams on becoming that somebody someday.

I want to travel the world and experience it first hand and not just by pictures.

I want to wake up in a house with my kids’ laughter echoing...

I want to help people take their first flight to their own dreams…

I want that life shared with people who loves me and whom I love most – nothing but pure bliss because of the fact that we’ve seen more than the money we’ve earned.

While there are many opportunities – indeed – that can help man earn the amount he wants to have, I’ve noticed how few are doing this with a definite purpose other than “buying” stuff…

Now, going back when I was in first year college, if you asked me again why I took up computer engineering and not something related to English or writing I’d definitely say something different: it was because of how it had helped me grow. It was in those times that I found myself focused on something so hard that most people usually gave up on. Believe it or not it helped me become better in writing.

We may never have a choice at first…
At times we even follow what the rest of the world does
But as long as we envelope with love what we have at present
And place God in the center of everything we do
We gain more opportunities than what we planned to entertain
Just remember that at the end of the day
Whatever you do should be for a greater purpose
…and not because someone said so…

One day, maybe out of all the stress and frustration, you’ll be asking yourself why am I even here? or why am I doing this? When that time comes always remind yourself of where you were before and how you were back when all you have at present were never even “present”.

Once you’ve done that ask yourself this question: How can this situation help me? Whatever your answer is just use it…and if you have none then let go…It was meant to be an arrow towards the path you need to go…
